INDIA - Surveying inaccessible
pipelines
- survey of buried transmission pipelines across difficult
terrain ...
|
Gas
transmission pipelines in the sub-continent are often laid across
all kinds of difficult terrain - including paddy fields - where
they may be under several feet of water and mud.
Checking the coating condition on such lines using traditional
pipeline survey methods is virtually impossible, but Indian
engineers, trained by Dynalog, carry out regular
surveys.
Readings are first taken on the raised earth banks which separate
the paddy fields. Sections which show satisfactory attenuation
levels require no further attention.
Where attenuation levels are too high it is necessary to lower
the water level and get down into the mud with the
Detector to locate the fault(s) using some close interval
readings. Repairs can then be carried out as required. |
